Remove Your HTO Status through the Florida Driver Amnesty Program
Take action to remove your Habitual Traffic Offender status through June 30, 2011, under the Florida Driver Amnesty Program.
February 05, 2011 /Transportation and Trucking PR News/ -- Take Action--Program Ends on July 1, 2011
You have through June of this year to apply to have your Habitual Traffic Offender (HTO) designation removed--under the Florida Driver Amnesty Program--but you must qualify for it.
The Amnesty Program has its roots in House Bill 795, which became law in 2010. Its qualifications follow:
- You must have been convicted three times for driving while license suspended (DWLS) as the reason that you were designated an HTO, such as for accumulating too many points, lapsed car insurance, or failure to pay a traffic fine, among others
- At least one of the DWLS convictions must be for a non-driving offense, such as failure to pay child support
The DWLS-related convictions will stay on your record, but if you succeed at removing your HTO designation, you'll be able to drive.

The consequences of HTO status include driver's license revocation for five years--and a felony if you're caught driving on HTO status--so it makes sense to contact an attorney for removal of HTO status through the Florida Driver Amnesty Program.
If you have questions about the program or you need legal representation for any of a wide range of traffic or criminal defense matters, contact a qualified attorney in Florida.
